      1. Present simple


        2. činnost opakující se pravidelně či nepravidelně po určité době I often quote famous people. (Často cituji známé lidi.)
        činnost, o které mluvím obecně I interpret and teach languages. - Tlumočím a učím jazyky.
        (obecně říkám, že něco umím.)

        The assistant always knocks on the door before she enters my office. I acknowledge receiving your offer.
        She doesn't want to disturb me. We don't need your services at the moment.
        Does your assistant knock on the door? Do you have many customers?

      2. Present continuous


        3. činnost právě teď probíhající They are relaxing at the moment. - V tuhle chvíli odpočívají.
        činnost probíhající v delším časovém úseku, ale NE v tomto okamžiku They are dismissing hundreds of people from the company this month. - Tenhle měsíc propouští z firmy stovky zaměstnanců.
        činnost, která bude s jistotou probíhat v blízké budoucnosti We are seeing our friends off at the airport tonight. - Jdeme dnes v noci vyprovodit přátele na letiště.

        The phone is ringing. They are knocking on the door.
        Is their business expanding? Why are they defending him?
        They aren't leaving in the afternoon. I am not arguing.

      3. Passives


        4. V angličtině má trpný rod mnohem širší užití než v češtině,
        obzvláště ve formální angličtině.

        They are being registered. - Právě se registrují.
        They are registered. - Jsou registrováni.

        They are being served. They are depressed.
        It isn't being cleaned. It isn't finished.
        Are they being followed? Is it permitted?
